Laurie David is an environmentalist, author and producer of the Academy Award winning film An Inconvenient Truth and the HBO documentary Too Hot Not to Handle. She executive produced Earth to America!, a primetime comedy special about global warming, which earned her a Gracie Allen Award for Individual Achievement. A trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council, Ms. David founded the Stop Global Warming Virtual March. She was the first ever guest editor of Elle Magazine, two years running. In 2006 Laurie published her first book, the bestseller, “Stop Global Warming: The Solution is You” and in 2007 she and Cambria Gordon co-authored The Down to Earth Guide to Global Warming, written for kids of all ages, which received the prestigious the Green Earth Book Award in the nonfiction category. That same year, Laurie launched the Stop Global Warming College Tour with Sheryl Crow, where they visited college campuses throughout the South East on a biodiesel tour bus and raised awareness and inspired students to become part of the movement to stop global warming. Laurie’s attention is now on the family environment in her newest book The Family Dinner: Great Ways to Connect with Your Kids, One Meal at a Time. In book stores November 3, 2010, The Family Dinner is part cookbook, part parenting book and will help families turn what for some can be a chore and for many, a forgotten ritual, into the best hour of the day. The power of sitting down together to share a meal can not be underestimated as Laurie has experienced with her own family. Of course, the kitchen is the greenest room in the house to teach those values and The Family Dinner sprinkles green wisdom throughout. She has received numerous awards including the prestigious Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild of America and a Humanitas Prize Special Award for An Inconvenient Truth. In May 2007 Laurie was honored with The Audubon Society’s Rachel Carson Award , The Feminist Majority’s Eleanor Roosevelt Award. She was also awarded the prestigious NRDC 2006 Forces for Nature award. Laurie, a regular blogger on the Huffington Post, has been featured on Oprah, The Martha Stewart Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, CNN, MSNBC and was named a 2006 Glamour Woman of the Year. She has been profiled in People, Glamour, Vogue, Rolling Stone Magazine, Elle Magazine, Wired, House and Garden, Outside Magazine, The New York Times and Vanity Fair.
