“The Milestone Hotel in London was just voted the #2 city hotel in Europe and the # 1 World’s Best Award Travel + Leisure”
“For the best stay in all of London you don’t want to miss this experience! The best food, most luxurious and elegant atmosphere and the most wonderful staff I have ever met!” Nancy Chuda

We arrived famished and exhausted. Returning from Kenya’s Ol Jogi we had traversed 10,000 acres of bush having spent a great deal of time learning about the plight of the white and black rhinos which are sadly diminishing.
Oh! To be in the city again. Especially London. The sounds of the cobblestone streets were muffled by the hotel’s new Range Rover. The plush black leather interiors and surround sound, brought us back to reality. And the real treat was meeting Colin Monplaisir who provided a cornucopia of facts about his beloved and honorable position at one, if not the most beautiful hotels in all the world.
Moments after our arrival we were led to the entrance of one of the most magnificent suites we have ever seen. Happily ensconced in The Tudor Suite, and feeling like a Royal… dare I say, the Queen was near. In fact, we were a stones throw. Dating back to 1689 and overlooking Kensington Gardens, this elegant hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the Royal Albert Hall and 2 miles from Buckingham Palace. Who needs the Palace when your staying at The Milestone. High Tea here tops The Dorchester’s most coveted reputation.
Locals and tourists hover at the entrance hoping to get a table but reservations are a must!
The cordial staff and their incredible hospitality beckons more than a two night stay. And wait, just wait until you dine. Every single meal was a delicious treat. The Dover Sole…. the best in the world! The Eggs Benedict was so very special. I have yet to taste a Hollandaise Sauce as great as theirs. However, Beatrice Tollman is the guiding light behind all the recipes at every single Red Carnation Hotel and you can’t crave enough of her soups, breads, sauces and deserts. Her cook book, A Life In Food is a Milestone! The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients easy to find. What a treasure!
Part of our stay at The Milestone also included two other Red Carnation Hotels, 41 London and the Egerton House Hotel all within close proximity of each other. And each with a very unique interior designed theme. We had High Tea with the Tollman’s daughters, Toni whose exquisite interior designs throughout the collection are world famous. Vicky Tollman manages the Bouchard Finlayson Winery in Western Cape Town best known for their red varietals.
All of the Red Carnation Properties are Pet Friendly… they have created the same unique opportunities for pets. In fact, your four legged companion will choose from a variety of gourmet treats on their dining menu. This is a great Travels with Journey opportunity. Next time we will take him for sure. The Queen Mary II departs from New York to Southampton England…. and you can book a kennel for your pet.
Journey can’t wait to go!
The most wicked but best Martini in the world is served at Egerton House Hotel
Beatrice Tollman’s majestic inspiration, charm and beauty adorns every single one of their properties… it’s all in the details, she calls it, TNC which stands for tiny, noticeable touches
What a glorious history. There is nothing to compare. We stayed at several of the Red Carnation Collection Hotels throughout South Africa and each experience was excellent. The Tollman’s family mission is to make every guest feel at home. As a guest you embrace their unique covenant and promise for the most memorable stay of a lifetime.
The beautiful Bea Tollman
