Step into the world of Suzanne LaCock Browning and you will be tortured, almost mentally abused if YOU DON’T ADOPT A PET.
Her reasons are grounded on solid statistical information that will leave you speechless and worse, GUILTY, if you’re the owner of a pedigree pet. Breeders beware. The hundreds of thousands of so called puppy mills place innocent animals on pet store pedestals with one intention. Breed for greed and sell for profit. Does money buy perfection? Not always true.
In Suzanne’s world, those people are “choc full and nuts!” Who in their right mind would want to buy a puppy, spend a lot of money on inoculations, neutering, and years and years of vet bills knowing that their purebred purchase for a lifetime of happiness and joy sentences thousands and thousands of puppies to die, everyday in shelters, even though some claim that they are a “No Kill” facility.

C’mon! Four little paws (whatever the mix) two smart eyes, and a pink tongue and baby WHITE teeth. How much cuter can they be? Okay, no direct knowledge of the sire and dam, instead, only minutes left to claim one. If not… you calculate how many of these human medical aids (puppies) will have lowered blood pressure, increased serotonin, and decreased feelings of anxiety and depression.. all for the sake of humanity.
That’s the good news now here’s the bad. The HSUS estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, of whom approximately 3-4 million are euthanized.
At this time, there is no central data reporting agency for animal shelters, so these numbers are estimates; however, the Asilomar Accords method is gaining momentum as a standard for more accurately tracking these numbers. Annual statistics for approximately 150 shelters across the country are posted at asilomaraccords.org.
Once you get it… and understand the law of average for most pets in animal shelters, you will think twice about what you can and should do. Working together to find solutions will strike at the roots of animal overpopulation.
But people need a voice and a conductor to create a harmonic convergence; from those that buy pedigree to them, the almighty we who will adopt.
Thanks to my friend Suzanne, we were convinced to adopt and we did. Although Journey, our yellow lab had two prior homes, he now has claimed us and ours for good. Some of my friends said, having met Journey and knowing that our last dog was a 148 pound Bloodhound, “I thought you were going to downsize?” But Journey works for a living and supports us in our retirement. Not bad for a dog without a college education.

We will adopt again. Speaking of places to go, have you heard of Lucky Puppy? Located in Studio City, it is the first doggonit great place (franchisable) where you are guaranteed to get lucky and go home with an adorable baby that smells just like your baby after a bath. He or she won’t drool on your shoulder, poop or pee in your hand, instead just nuzzle up to your face and kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, until the tears stop rolling down your cheeks. Make it a Lucky Puppy Day Today and count your blessings all the way home.
Suzanne promises that the $400 dollar price tag for one lucky puppy helps to curb their financial problems which include a hefty price tag for veterinary assistance. She states, “each dog is spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, micro-chipped, etc. and they usually have kennel cough or a host of other ailments.” In essence, each adopted dog helps to pay some of the costs of others. It’s a win or lose battle everyday that’s why they count on donations not just adoptions.
